Edit: After attending the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Sydney Australian Fashion Week Review show on Wednesday and seeing a number of designers' collections being shown on the runway which I had seen earlier in the year at RAFW I felt a sting of nostalgia though probably more importantly seeing the designs invoked my love for them in the first place. Bowie SS11/12 runway show was one of them. Here is (finally) my RAFW review of Bowie SS11/12. As they say, better late then never! Enjoy!
BOWIE PAPER CRANE SS11/12
The closing show for RAFW was the much talked about BOWIE runway show. Inspired by the Japanese natural disaster and the recent turmoil, the collection featured elaborately constructed dresses with ostrich feathers, tulle, intricate laser cut detailing, beading, taffeta and lucious silk.
With a circular runway with a enormous pile of salt in the centre creating a luminous and mysterious atmosphere coupled with billowing smoke - the mood was set for the Bowie SS11/12 runway show. Fan headpieces adorned every second model while the others had their hair voluminous and high - mirroring a geisha's hairstyle. The collection comprised of snow whites, blood reds and coal blacks with hints of adornments of sparkles or bows adding that extra something into each amazing couture dress.
The last show for RAFW and I couldn't have asked for a better closing show - this runway show defined what couture fashion is all about and really raised the bar for Australian designers. Move over Alex Perry, its all about Bowie now!
