Sarah Burton's second collection (click here for the first) for Alexander McQueen, without a doubt has erased any doubts that there should have been someone else take over the fashion house. We cannot forget the level of pressure Burton must have felt when designing the first collection following the death of her friend and mentor, Alexander Lee McQueen. Burton has whole heartedly hit two birds with one stone; she successfully brings her own design style to the fashion house while simultaneously remaining true to McQueen's aesthetic.
This second collection (the first was for resort 2010) follows on from McQueen's final collection however there is an obvious emphasis and almost exaggeration which was very much like McQueen's design style. I felt the resort collection was more reserved while this Ready to Wear Spring 2011 collection really brings Sarah Burton's design skills to the foreground.
Beautiful butterflies, feathers, lace, floral prints and tailored pieces make up the collection. A few pieces which really made my heart beat faster were the last few ones to come down the runway (the beautiful butterfly shoes and the butterfly graphic print dress, the black lace/flower see through dress, the frills, ruffles, chiffon, feathers and overall McQueen's signature silhouette remains! The shoes and accessories were spectacular and I think totally in line with McQueen's aesthetic and eclectic nature, fantastic work Sarah Burton you've done Alexander McQueen, the fashion world and of course yourself proud!!
ps- this collection made me cry, I still get teary and very emotional when I see McQueen's legacy to the world. RIP, we will forever miss you. Long live McQueen!
xx

I couldn't think of anyone better than her to design for McQueen. I wonder what will happen to the house when she eventually leaves (hopefully this is years and yearrssss down the track).
Tisci would commercialise it, someone from V&R would rip it to shreds and Karl would make it too accessable. All amazing designers in their own right - but no one, absolutely no one suits this role more than her....

She's done an absolutely perfect job. Like you said, an excellent choice to carry on McQueen's legacy.
I adore ... well, I adore everything, but oh, those shoes. I'm in love.

I'm so in love with this collection too :) Since most of it is out of budget tho..I'll have to find a way to DIY something similar in some cases...like the feather collar in the first pic. Oh, so many gorgeous pieces!
