L'oreal Paris Runway presented by Grazia being the first runway show had a lot to live up to and keeping this in mind the show was made up of some of Australia's firmly well established, internationally renowned designers. The show began with a beautifully directed ethereal clip featuring model Louise van de Vorst (who had a striking similarity to other doe eyed Aussie model Gemma Ward) who moved seductively in slow motion to Florence + The Machine’s dreamy cover of Addicted to Love which ran for the complete show. To sum up this runway show; all designers shown in the show are held together by dark romance, tailoring, embellishments and intricate detailing, expect to see feathers, beading and sequins.
sass&bide were first to come on the runway. For those who haven't been able to get into a sass&bide flagship store the collection consisted of gold and silver embellishments on a black palette. The collection aptly named Tough Love is about the contradictions of using different mediums and textures. It is still sexy and quite romantic, but then you have the counterbalancing elements of the metalwork that bring in that hardness.
LIFEwithBIRD was next down the runway, straight after sass&bide where the collection was comprised of girly light peach and whites teamed with heaps of feathers for texture and leather pieces (being the key trend of the season).
As usual Camilla&Marc have shown that they are the masters of girly meets tough. With feminine drapery on jackets and use of gold embellishment (see a reoccuring definite style trend happening?) that adds an tough edge to each piece however also lends sexiness. Look for studded shoulder padded tees, sequinned tanks and dresses as well as embellished jackets and skirts.
Nicola Finetti manages to maintain its signature geometric and tailored appreciation while adding Lady Gaga like embellishments and detailing. Bandage and one shoulder dresses are still smoking. Keep an eye out for the two toned tights that are sure to become a hit!
Alice McCall is all about being a poetic, pretty renaissance with a modern romantic edge to it. The new collection still mantains the overarching feminine aesthetic which is Alice McCall's signature however attempts to add a dark neo romanticist side to the label and in my opinion succeeds.
One of my favourite pieces from this runway show was indeed the unique Fleur Wood lace eyewear. Not only was it so unique and very gaga, no doubt this look will be trickling down to chain stores in no time. The collection consisted of pale pinks, black, grey and gold with use of tulle, gold sequin embellishment on skirts and dresses which toughen up a otherwise feminine little black dress.
Toni Maticevski is a veteran when it comes to creating stunning, sexy, glamorous dresses and his latest collection does not disappoint. He mixes light and soft elements like the use of feathers with a more aggressive beading and volume to create delicious dresses that will make any woman look stunning.
Chunky jewelled bangles compliment the embellished piece it accompanies where in the world of Toni Maticevski there is no limit to embellishments.
I really enjoyed Collete Dinnigan's latest collection. Usually ( in my opinion) her dresses are either too feminine and flapper that they just don't suit me or just aren't that interesting however this collection really blew me away. Beading on sweetheart neckline strapless dresses, tulle, lace, more beading along with tailored jackets and tough leather gloves, very chic.
